The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, Michigan in 1915. In 1924 a constitution was adopted defining the organization as a community service organization for men. In 1987 membership was opened to women. The Nebraska-Iowa District (established in 1949?) is the umbrella organization for the individual clubs of Nebraska and Iowa.
